Known as the Civic Arena until December 1999, Mellon Arena
was built to be the home of the Civic Light Opera in 1961. The
Pittsburgh Penguins became tenants in the fall of 1967 and won
two Stanley Cup Championships during Mario Lemieux's successful
career. It has
affectionately been known as "The Igloo." Its retractable
stainless steel roof is the structure's most unique feature.
From the Civic Light Opera to Elvis, from great hockey to monster
trucking, Mellon Arena has seen it all.
Penguin hockey fans and all Pittsburghers will love this
commemorative ornament of Mellon Arena.
