The Kaufmann's clock, at the outside corner of the store
building bordering Fifth Avenue and Smithfield Street, was and
still is a very popular downtown meeting place for the lunchtime
crowd and any other time of the day.
"Meet me under Kaufmann's clock" was a phrase heard over and over again
in Pittsburgh throughout the years. It was often the meeting place for
shoppers or office workers who were joining friends for lunch at the Tic Toc
restaurant or those looking to bring their children to the Secret Santa
inside the Kaufmann's Department Store. Even though the name "Kaufmann's"
was officially change to "Macy's" on September 9, 2006, the clock will
forever be known as the Kaufmann's clock by native Pittsburghers.
Everyone who met "under the clock" will enjoy this keepsake
ornament.
