During the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month,
and throughout the year pink ribbons are worn in memory of loved
ones lost their lives to breast cancer and to celebrate those
who have conquered it.
In 1991, pink ribbons were first handed out to participants in a
race in New York City for breast cancer survivors by the Susan
G. Komen Foundation. Charlotte Hayley, a breast cancer
survivor, and Evelyn Lauder, of Estee Lauder, worked together
and with others in the early 1990s to create the international
symbol for breast cancer awareness -- the "pink ribbon" was
born. Throughout the year, and particularly in October, there
are events sponsored throughout the world to raise funds and
awareness to help find a cure for breast cancer and to support
those undergoing treatment for the disease. The fight will
continue until a cure is found.
Honor breast cancer survivors and memorialize those that have
passed with this Pink Ribbon Ornament.
