In the Polish town of Wadowice, Karol Jozef Woityla was born
on May 18, 1920. Upon graduation from high school he studied
drama. One year later the Nazis closed the university and he
went to work in a quarry and a chemical factory to avoid being
deported to Germany.
Young Karol started studying in a clandestine seminary in 1942.
After WWII he continued his studies and was ordained to the
priesthood on November 1, 1946. He had many ministries over the
years, ministering to Polish immigrants, vicar of various
parishes and becoming a professor at a seminary in Krakow. He
was appointed a bishop, then a cardinal and made important
contributions to Vatican Council II. On October 16, 1978, he
was elected Pope. On April 2, 2005, Pope John Paul II was
called to heaven.
Honor the memory of Pope John Paul II with this beautiful
ornament on your Christmas tree - also and ideal religious gift.
