The Erie Land Light is an old sandstone light tower standing
49 feet tall at Lighthouse Park in Erie, PA. Lit for the first
time in 1819, it guided ships on Lake Erie to Pennsylvania's
only port on the Great Lakes until it was permanently taken out
of service in 1899. When it was found that the first two
structures were built on quicksand, a third and final tower was
built about 200 yards east of the original location in 1867.
Even though the light is inactive it was renovated and
rededicated in June 2004 after a historically accurate lantern
was returned to the top of the tower so that today it looks much
the same as it did in 1897.
The Erie Land Lighthouse Ornament is an ideal gift for any
lighthouse collector. Tom Pollard Designs specializes in
designing the finest gold-plated brass light house ornaments.
