The lion, a symbol of courage, power and nobility, live in
the savannas, grasslands, dense bush and woodlands of the
sub-Saharan region of Africa and in Asia. There is also a
critically endangered small population of lions in NW India.
They have disappeared from North Africa where they were once
very numerous. They are included in the Special Survival Plan,
a program by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. National
parks and game reserves have been established to give the lions
a protected place to live.
Male lions reach up to 500 lbs. and females 330 lbs. Males have a thick
mane of brown or black hair circling their head and neck. Equipped with
powerful legs, long canine teeth and a strong jaw, a lion is capable of
bringing down large prey. Lions live in a pride with about 15 other lions.
When at rest lions enjoy lots of head rubbing, licking, purring and
touching. The average life span is 10-14 years in the wild, over 20 years
in captivity.
Buy this keepsake ornament for a unique gift for any lion
collector.
