The wooden, single lane covered bridges are truly historic
treasures which symbolize small-town America. Sometimes they
were called "kissing bridges" due to the enclosed nature of the
bridge but they really were covered to protect the timbers from
deteriorating by limiting the exposure to the elements. By
enclosing the sides and top, the life span of the bridge
expanded greatly.
The modern bridge traffic can include both cars as well as horse
and buggies depending on the town you are in. When the horses'
hooves make a clip-clop sound while going over the bridge it can
make you think of an earlier time.
The Amish Quilter ornament is an ideal affordable gift for
any Amish collector or covered bridge collector.
