3 Dimensional Ornament.
This beautiful multi-layered ornament highlights Saint Peter at
its center. This ornament has a gold oval frame accented with
filigree on the outer edge. Layered on top of this oval frame
is a silver- and red-accented filigree canopy gently bowed out
that says St. Peter in red and has a delicate red cross beneath
his name. Layered on top of the bottom portion of the gold oval
frame is another silver- and red-accented filigree bowed piece
that has a mitre as the centerpiece. In the middle of the
ornament is St. Peter with white hair and a white bushy beard
wearing a red cloak, holding a bible in his left hand and a
staff in his right. To his right is a white scroll that angles
in towards him. Printed on the scroll are the words Upon this
rock, I will build my church. To St. Peters left is a red oval
angled in towards him with the Keys of Heaven depicted as two
gold crossed keys and a white lamb rests beneath.
ST. PETER
Feast Day - June 29
The Roman Catholic Church recognizes Peter as
the first
Pope. Simon started as a fisherman and was one of the
Twelve Apostles, along with his brother Andrew, chosen by
Jesus who changed Simons name to Peter at their first
meeting. According to the Bible, after Peter identifies Jesus
as the Christ, the Son of the living God, Jesus realized that
Peter only knew this because of divine revelation. From there,
in Matthew 16:18-20, Jesus tells Peter I also say to
you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my
church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it. I will
give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you
loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. It was
Peter who denied Jesus three times before the cock crowed
the night of Jesus crucifixion just as Jesus foretold at the
Last Supper. Years later, Peter suffered his own crucifixion
upside down at the hands of Nero around the
year 64 since he did not consider himself worthy to
die in the same way as his Savior.
