The name Philadelphia is Greek for "brotherly love".
Established as a city in 1701, it is now the largest city in the
state of Pennsylvania and the 6th most populated city in the
United States. Historically, Philadelphia has a long rich
history and was the heart of the original 13 colonies. It was
where the Declaration of Independence was signed and is the home
of the Liberty Bell. Benjamin Franklin played a prominent role
in Philadelphia's past.
Known as America's first major industrial city, it is also home to the
nation's first hospital and zoo. Today the city is an important center for
medicine, law, manufacturing and financial services and the city proudly
boast many major art, science and history museums, national historic
landmarks, restaurants and theaters.
