The Republican symbol of an elephant was born in a cartoon by
Thomas Nast from Harper's Weekly in 1874 when a donkey disguised
as a lion was scaring away all the zoo animals, one of which was
an elephant. The label "The Republican Vote" was on the
elephant and it stuck as the symbol of the Republican Party ever
since.
The nickname for the Republican Party is Grand Old Party or G.O.P. and
dates back to as early as 1876. Republicans refer to the elephant as both
dignified and strong.
Show your support for the Republican party with this keepsake
gift. It's also and ideal thank you gift for campaign workers
and supporters.
